High-efficiency washing machine owners, be warned:
Preventing a washer repair requires a bit more work (and knowledge) if your washer is a high-efficiency model. Don't discourage yourself or regret your purchase but certainly become aware of a few things you should do different to prevent needing an early washer repair.
You should let your washing machine door stay open when it's not running.
The door gasket is highly susceptible to mold growth if the area stays damp or moist. To prevent mold from developing here, make sure to let the machine air-dry when it's not in use. Many top-loader washer owners follow this practice already because leaving the door open makes the machine ready for the next load. However, it's just as important if you own a front-loading washing machine. Don't close the door out of convenience if you prefer the mold to stay away!
You should always make sure the water filter stays clean.
High-efficiency washing machines use less water than normal washers. As a result, the ratio of water to dirt when the machine runs the wash cycle will be much different. The greater amount of concentration of dirt, the more at risk the water filter becomes of getting clogged up. A failure to properly clean your clothes could happen as a result of dirt clogging the filter.
You should keep the dispenser drawer clean and dry.
Mold growth regularly happens in this drawer. Air it out, just like you will do with the mildew-harboring door seal after each load. Simply leave the drawer open when you finish using the machine so it can dry up and evade mold/mildew growth. Not only will this stink up your laundry room but it'll also interfere with the cleanliness of your clothes.
Have you noticed that soap residue stays on your clothes after washing a load of clothes in your washing machine? If so, the sudsy leftovers are the result of a fault in your rinse cycle. Two possible problems are happening here. One, the water for the rinse cycle never reaches the drum in the first place. Or, two, it fails to drain out properly. Diagnosis can be done by inspecting the drain and supply hoses for clogging, leaks and other damage. Ensure the supply valve is fully open or else the water pressure won't be sufficient for your rinse cycle.
